I Think Welcome To Plathville’s Olivia Plath Is Using The Plath Family For Clout (2025)

Welcome To Plathville star Olivia Plath has been on the current season of the show frequently despite no longer being a Plath, leaving me believing that Olivia’s only using the Plaths for clout. Olivia was married to Ethan Plath, the eldest son of the family for five years, and has been continually followed on the longtime series despite no longer interacting with the rest of the family. Olivia’s marriage to Ethan, which they entered into at just 20 years old, has been the focus of Welcome To Plathville for the last several seasons, especially when it spiraled into heartbreaking turmoil.

Olivia and Ethan’s relationship has been the focus of Welcome To Plathville for years, even before it was something they were struggling with deeply. While Welcome To Plathville season 6, the first with Ethan and Olivia moving separately after their divorce, has been fascinating to viewers, though most are curious about why Olivia’s still part of the show. Olivia, who has been adamant about keeping her last name after divorce and who has spoken openly about the treatment she suffered from the Plath family, has had storylines on the show that follow her on her own, which has been jarring.

Olivia And Ethan Are Officially Divorced

Although Ethan and Olivia struggled in their relationship from the beginning, things got even more difficult toward the end of their marriage. Throughout Welcome To Plathville season 5, when Ethan and Olivia were isolated from the rest of the family and living in Minnesota, the couple was having issues understanding how to get on the same page. While Olivia was hoping to continue to live more independently and see where life took them, Ethan wanted to plant down roots and start to get serious about their future.

When Ethan shared that he wanted children, but couldn’t see the current version of Olivia being their mother, things came to a grinding halt. Olivia’s relationship with Ethan had to come to an end, and after the pair struggled to try and get help without much change, they chose to split. Ethan and Olivia’s lives post-divorce have been featured on Welcome To Plathville ’s current season, but seeing them separately has been somewhat strange to watch even though it’s for the best.

Olivia’s Appearances On The Show Are Isolated

She’s Not Working With The Plaths

Although Olivia’s no longer part of the Plath family, she’s still appearing regularly on Welcome To Plathville in a bizarre turn of events. Olivia’s been shown on her own throughout the season, though she had a bit of interaction with Ethan and his sister, Moriah Plath, early on in the season. Now, Olivia’s been shown with her sister Lydia Meggs, as well as her new boyfriend Brendan on Welcome To Plathville, but her appearances are isolated from the Plath family entirely. Olivia’s isolated from the entirety of the family, and while it’s likely best for her, it’s strange to see.

With Olivia getting to do some exciting new things in her life without Ethan pulling her down, she’s been able to celebrate being part of Welcome To Plathville in new ways. Featuring her sister more often, Olivia’s been able to show off her lifestyle and allow herself the time and space to find a new normal. She’s even been bold enough to introduce her new boyfriend to the show, allowing the Welcome To Plathville audience to get to know him. As a major part of her life, Brendan seems to be opening Olivia up to a new world of possibilities.

Olivia’s Using The Plaths & Welcome To Plathville For Clout

She Wants To Stay Relevant

After a strange season of seeing Olivia on her own and the Plaths working through their issues as a family, it doesn’t make much sense that she’s still part of Welcome To Plathville. Olivia’s not appearing on the show for her health. The benefits of Olivia’s time on Welcome To Plathville are obvious; she’s able to appear on the show to promote herself, which brings her clout and business. Olivia’s using the Plath family and Welcome To Plathville for clout after her painful divorce, and while I think she should leave the show, I’m not mad about her doing so.

Olivia’s decisions surrounding her life post-divorce have very clearly been about preserving her peace. While she was with Ethan, there was a lot about her life she didn’t have control over, and a lot she wound up compromising on to make Ethan happy. Now in her singlehood, Olivia doesn’t have to make compromises with Ethan or choose to put her marriage over herself. While she’s thinking on her own two feet, Olivia also has the opportunity to stay on Welcome To Plathville to ensure that she’s financially stable and putting herself out there, using those that burned her for clout.
